Take Note
Take Note is a grassroots movement of volunteers in Indiana, USA focused on protecting entertainers, DJs, bartenders, wait staff, and other employees from secondhand smoke. While a majority of workers in Indiana are currently protected from secondhand smoke, employees in most casinos, bars, and clubs are not protected by current laws.〔US 100% Smokefree Laws in Workplaces AND Restaurants AND Bars, http://www.no-smoke.org/pdf/WRBLawsMap.pdf〕 The Take Note movement started in 2007 as a response to the need for equal protection for the Indiana workforce. Under Indiana’s current laws, most nightclubs, bars, and entertainment venues are not smoke-free. While recent polling shows that three out of four Hoosiers support a law in their community that would eliminate tobacco smoke from all indoor workplaces, the status quo remains that smoking in bars and nightclubs is acceptable.〔Smoke Free Policy Study, http://www.policyinstitute.iu.edu/PubsPDFs/SmokeFree_Pr8.pdf〕 Take Note is a movement attempting to rally the majority in Indiana to challenge that status quo. == References ==
